2025: A Year of Madness or a Year of Mission?

2025: A Year of Madness or a Year of Mission?

Which picture above best describes the way you entered the New Year? Do you feel like you only substituted one calendar on the wall for another but are stuck in the same chaotic life as always? Or do you feel that 2025 is going to be a year in which you set out on an adventure which will transform your life in a positive way?

It’s very easy to become imprisoned by the tumult of the urgent. We fool ourselves into believing that busyness is the same as living a meaningful and productive life. But that isn’t always the case. We can become so caught up in doing things that we lose sight of the fact that some things don’t need to be done while we leave important responsibilities to the side.

Life passes quickly, very quickly. While ten years might seem like an eternity, think back on the last decade and evaluate if you were conscious of the direction your life took. Did things just happen or was their planning and purpose? While we can’t control much of our lives, we can determine what is most important. And that is what having a mission is all about.

This Sunday we’re going to see what God did through a man named John who was also called “The Baptizer”. His life was neither glamorous nor glorious, but it was mission driven. He was a man who understood and embraced God’s will for his life. Though John had a very specific mission of preparing the people of his time for the coming of Christ, every believer has the mission of living out God’s will on a daily basis in the place where he has put us. Our mission is no less important than that of John’s. The question is, are we prepared to step out of the madness of our busyness to take up the path to which we have been called?
