Were you just a bit anxious this past week, worried about something that happened or might happen in the future?
Did the worry turn into frustration? Did you say to yourself something like, “Man, I’m working so hard, and things are just not going the way they should. Seems like two steps forward and two or even three steps backward. I don’t know how much longer I am going to be able to take this.”?
Was irritation the next progression? Did you just have to vent saying, “What’s the matter with these people, they just don’t get it. If only they would do what I tell them to do things wouldn’t be the way they are.”?
And more likely than not, it all ended in an angry outburst: a lost temper, raised voice, things said and done which we now regret.
It’s a pretty easy path to follow: anxiety, frustration, irritation, and finally anger. Unfortunately, it’s a path we follow much more frequently than we would like to admit. And it demonstrates one important spiritual truth: we’re at war in our lives. We easily see conflict in the lives of others, but we are often blind to the truth that peace in our lives is a fleeting experience. Some have even given up on the idea of long-term, genuine peace. They see peace as a pipedream.
If we are going to find personal peace though, it’s not going to be in what we or somebody else does, it’s going to be in what Christ has done for us. Peace isn’t a pipe dream, in Jesus, it’s a reality, a reality he means for us to experience on a daily basis. If the war of anxiety, frustration, irritation and anger seems never ending for you, join us for our Sunday morning worship service. Give peace a chance!
