“God – It’s Not Fair!”

“God – It’s Not Fair!”

Surreal was the only word to describe the scene. Just a few weeks earlier people had walked miles to hear him preach. Important people visited him regularly to find out more about him. And then there was the day Jesus himself came to be baptized. He had witnessed things no one else had ever seen.

But now, he was all alone except for the rats which ran about his feet. He was hungry. He was hot during the day and cold during the night. But worst of all were the questions. Where was God in all of this? He had done everything he was told to do. He had given his whole life, all 30 years of it to God. And now this! Stuck in a dark, dirty prison cell. Waiting for one more call – the call to be executed. His thoughts screamed, “God – It’s not fair! Why are you doing this to me!”

John the Baptist – a man Jesus once called one of the greatest followers of God in history. But now he had been locked in prison for standing up for what was right, for doing what the Lord had told him to do. What was God thinking? And yet, throughout history, God has let his most devoted people suffer horrendously not for evil behavior, but for doing the right thing. Unjust suffering is devastating to the human soul and yet Jesus said various times it’s part of being his follower. Are you ready to suffer for what is right? Join us this Sunday morning, let’s get ready together!
