Just When You Least Expect

Just When You Least Expect

Everything can seem like a confusing mixture of darkness and uncertainty. Frustrated and discouraged, you throw up your hands and ask aloud, “What am I going to do?” Then, when you least expect it, help arrives. Not only is it unexpected, but it often comes through the most unlikely people in the most improbable ways. There seems to be no rational explanation. Some call it luck; others, a happy coincidence. Christians call it a God thing.

People have written books about God’s mysterious ways of helping human beings. These books offer fascinating explanations and insights, but they also point to one fundamental lesson: even when God’s ways seem strange, he comes to the rescue.

This past week, you’ve been reading the short book of Ruth. The story takes place during the darkest period of Israel’s Old Testament history—the time of the Judges. Yet in this spiritual wasteland, God uses an unsuspecting young woman from Moab to reveal the power of his faithful love. The story of Ruth is easy to overlook in the Bible’s grand narrative, but don’t miss it. Spend time in this remarkable book, because God often works in similar ways today—through quiet, faithful people.

If life feels dark right now, join us this weekend as we study the story of Ruth. It may open your eyes to the light you’ve been looking for.
