Who Rules?

Who Rules?

Every day, every single human being on this planet worships. Most would find that a strange statement, but it is true. A day, an hour, a minute doesn’t go by when we aren’t worshiping. Worship is a whole lot more than going to a certain location and carrying out religious rituals. Worship is about who rules in our hearts, who is most important. We can usually find out who or what rules by our decisions, what makes us happy, how we spend our time, how we use our money. There is something or someone who rules in the heart of all of us. The question is, is that ruler worthy of our worship?

While it is embarrassing to admit, for most of us we worship ourselves. No, we don’t bow down to our image in a mirror, but our greatest concern throughout each day is doing what we believe is best for us no matter what the situation or what we have to do to make that happen. A more common way of describing self-worship is “looking out for #1.”

On a day we call “Palm Sunday”, Jesus Christ entered Jerusalem with the intent of confronting the ruler of our hearts. He makes it clear we are not the center of the universe – he is! And he invites us to let him be what he rightly deserves to be – the King who rules in our lives. And what a King he is! For shortly after he entered Jerusalem as King, that same Jesus allowed himself to be nailed to a cross for one reason – so that we could be a part of his kingdom not just for a few years, but forever.

If you’ve been the one who rules in your life so far, how has it worked out? Is it time to consider a regime change? King Jesus is ready and more than willing to do for you what only he can!
